I shot this photo looking west at Sky Harbor International Airport.
The photo was taken on Priest Drive, just south of the Salt River
in Tempe.
I think the white thing on the hill is a radar antenna. I could be wrong on that though. I think the building to the right of the hill is the electronics equipment that drives the radar system. Again, I could be wrong on that. Sky Harbor Airport is behind the hill. The photo that follows is an aerial view of the I got from Google maps. The top of the photo is the north, the left of the photo is the west. The round thing in the following photo is the tall white thing, which is on top of the hill in the previous photo. I think it is an antenna for the radar. The 3 buildings near the top of the following photo are the building on the right side of the first photo. I think they are the electronics equipment that drives the radar. The very top of the photo is the Salt River. Yes it really is the Salt River, in Arizona most of our rivers are dry and don't have any water in them. |

I think these buildings house the electronic
equipment that is used to control the radar.
The thing on the very right of the photo looks like a propane or LNG (liquid natural gas) tank which contains propane or natural gas to run the site should they have a power failure. The thing at the bottom center of the photo is an old fashioned antenna. Which is visible in the photo I took from Priest Road in Tempe. |
